The MintList story
TrafficDriven won 1st place in the New Ventures BC competition for MintList. Mike and Mehrsa are holding the trophy like champs.
Mehrsa
I’ve always been driven and a perfectionist. I grew up in Iran, a daughter to two perfectionist parents. I was a competitive swimmer when I was young and I broke the national record at the age of 8. When I decide to do something, I just won’t stop until I win.
Mike
I always had a love for cars. From the age of 5 — no exaggeration — I knew every car, every detail. My dad tried to shut us up on long road trips by offering my brother and I ten cents to identify cars driving towards us, and I could name them in the dark, just from their headlights. It ended up being an expensive way for him to entertain us.
We met at a car race in Whistler in 2019. He had all the qualities I like in a person and a friend: he’s intelligent, honest and humble all at the same time. Then the next time I saw him some months later, he said “I have 30 pages of a business plan, I’m waiting for the market to catch up, will you read it and let me know what you think?”
He told me the idea and as soon as I heard it was about making car sales easier, I knew I wanted to work on this project. I had just finished selling my car, a really nice, relatively new import and the experience was just the worst. I felt like “I am the target market” and instantly knew I wanted to work with Mike. I was “in” before I even read the plan.
Even though I always loved cars, I always understood that the car buying experience is not the best. It’s the second most expensive purchase most people ever make and even if you love cars, everyone has a bad story to tell. Everyone likes a new car in their driveway, but hates the process to get it there. There had to be a better way, and fundamentally that boils down to treating people the way you’d like to be treated: properly. We decided to build a tech solution to solve this problem.
I already knew Mike had his hand on the pulse of the industry from our conversations. Once we had the concept clear, and he took off creating partnerships, it allowed me the room to focus on the operational and technology challenges which is where I’m best. I’m a process person so when someone like Mike has a great innovation, I can catch the ball and run with it.
I’ve always wanted to lead change, to be able to do things differently that impact people positively. Everyone has their passion and mine just happens to be cars, and now I see a way I can impact this industry that’s good for everyone and that’s exciting.
Creators. Doers. Believers.
In a perfect world, we’d have taken these photos in a fancy studio with a real photographer. But this is Covid, and we’re a start-up, so instead you get this. Just real-life pictures of our real life team. Clearly some of us have better cameras than others and don’t live alone with a cat.
